As a result of what Jesus did the Old Testament and subsequently the New testament, ceased being a book of God's Law and became a storehouse of God's Seed. Yes, each scripture (sentence or phrase) in the Bible is a seed waiting to be planted in the heart (the new heart) of a Christian. Just as a natural seed will always reproduce after it's own kind, wheat seed produces wheat, rye seed produces rye, so does God's Seed or Word.
(Heb 7:18 & 8:13, Mar 4:14)
Each scripture seed when planted will produce the characteristic of God described in that scripture, in the life of the believer. Patience scriptures produce patience, love scriptures produce love, healing scriptures produce healing - each scripture reproducing after it's own kind that attribute of the divine nature it contains. (2 Pet 1:4) What a contrast from the Old Covenant way of stoically trying to obey external rules and Laws and always failing. Now under a New and better Covenant there is a new and living way where Words sown as seeds come to life in the heart into which they have been planted. God Himself continues to enter the heart in each seed or Word and it is He that produces the change in a person and not that person's own ability or willpower. (1 Thes 2:13)
So you see the Bible may look dead, but actually just like an acorn, it is alive, but dormant - but each sentence or phrase in God's Word can only produce a miraculous change in a human life when it is Heard, Understood, and Enters into a human heart and Stays there. Sadly for many Christians almost all of God's Seeds remain in the storehouse, lying dormant on the pages of their Bible for the whole of their lives - while they continue to wait for God to move.(Prov 4:20-22)
Well, you say with all those verses in God's Word where do I begin looking for the right seed for me right now. Well, the answer is, we don't, we can't and were never intended to - rather the author of the Word Himself, God, through His Spirit, selects the perfect words for us each day by breathing His own life into them so that we hear them as God speaking personally to us. " . . . Give us this day our daily bread . . ." (Matt 6:11). We understand them because he reveals to us what he meant by them, regardless of what translation of the Bible we may be using. In fact no one truly knows or understands a single scripture unless God reveals it to him - in this way it is solely a matter of the condition of his heart and not a man's cleverness that God regards. Once a scripture is revealed to us (God has spoken Words directly to us) if we want to we can believe it with all of our heart and let it produce its glorious fruit in us. (John 16:12 & 17:17, 1Cor 2:9&10, 1Joh 2:27)
Well, you say the Bible doesn't speak to me. First this could be because you haven't yet let God reveal to you that Jesus is the Christ the Son of The Living God who died and rose again from the dead for you so that you could be reconciled to God and not eternally separated from Him because of your sin. Or if you have received a new heart and become a Christian then the Bible will always speak to you if you are truly willing to do God's will, even if you are willing to be made willing to do God's will it is enough to hear directly from God.(Prov 1:23, John 7:17)
So then, for someone to hear God's Words in their hearts and receive the planting of God's seeds they are totally dependant on God Himself. Yes, intelligence is not a factor other than in the demanding task of gathering the seed - buying a bible, opening it every day, reading it, getting quiet, expecting God to speak and chewing on what He says until His Words literally enter into your spirit and become a part of you. Regular listening to anointed Bible teaching (and having a concordance handy) will greatly expedite the process. It is only by this process laid down by God for the feeding of His sheep (us!) that we can come to possess truth, light, power, deliverance from sin, love, joy, peace, righteousness, faith, security, healing - the knowledge of and union with the Father in every area of our need. (Luk10:21, 1Cor 2:14)
Because the entrance of God's Living Words into the heart of a human being is the only way that Christians are Born spiritually and then grow spiritually, this process then is the number one target of God's enemies. By deceiving people into believing that the Bible is just the Law, a set of Christian principles, Theology, Literature, or History, evil spirits have successfully separated millions from the very life of God. When, with some this tactic didn't work and human hearts heard the Word (received the Seed) those same evil spirits have come through persecution, affliction, the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches and the lusts of other things to steal the precious Words of life and thereby the knowledge of God out of the hearts of believers.
(1Pet 1:23 & 2:2, Mar 4:3-20)
But what exactly does this Seed sowing process have to do with Jesus Christ?
Well just this, when the Spirit of God breathes life into the Word of God and it is written on the human heart...then it becomes the Living Word . . . and JESUS CHRIST IS THE LIVING WORD. (2Cor 3:6 & 3:3, Joh 1:1, Heb 4:12-14, Rev 19:13)
"And now, brethren I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified" (Acts 20:32)
